IKEA prepares for matchmaking at Elmia Subcontractor

Being a large organization, IKEA attend many fairs in their search for competitive prices and new technologies. Elmia Subcontractor is one of the fairs they frequently visit, and in order to make the most out of their visit they usually participate in the matchmaking event Subcontractor Connect.

This year, Sayyed Sabed, materials & technology engineer at IKEA is planning to visit Elmia Subcontractor and has signed up for matchmaking. We asked him what his expectations for this year’s event are.

You have signed up as for matchmaking at Elmia Subcontractor. Can you tell us what it is that you are looking for? What is important for you with a supplier?

 - As a materials & technology engineer, I’m always looking for:

1. Competitive prices for raw materials locally and globally for casting/disc & plates/profiles (e.g. other grades of aluminum that are more affordable for example without heat treatment or specific surface roughness, etc)

2. New technologies/solution/machinery (e.g. new profiles, newer surface coatings, more automation, etc) to 2.1) lower our production cost and make our products in Aluminum and Zinc more affordable and 2.2) And as well with lower energy and CO2 emissions at the same time (we have a tight carbon free agenda).

Then the above proposals will be transferred to our local production engineers, supply planners and others for implementation in local suppliers across the globe.

Why participate in matchmaking Subcontractor Connect? What do you think about the short, pre-booked meetings?

- It’s a great idea, and I already got 2 messages from Aluminum suppliers and will visit them for sure.

Will you visit the trade fair Elmia Subcontractor 2021 and why?

- Yes, but will have to follow IKEA’s travelling regulations and I hope it’ll be OK for this year.
